NASA: Space Exploration Done Right

You’ve heard the name before. You know them from the many movies based on the outer space. This organization has built a foundation strong enough for its name to be deeply etched in the world of Hollywood. NASA, short for National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is an independent space agency of the executive branch of the US federal government. They are in charge of space programs, aeronautics and space research. It was established in the year 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It was more civilian than military in its approach. The Apollo moon-landing missions, Skylab space station, and Space Shuttle etc. are some of the space exploration projects they have been undertaking.

NASA has picked up pace in such a way that a significant amount of the federal budget is dedicated to their research and projects. The NASA’s administrator is expected to report directly to the President and all decisions such as discontinuation of a project etc. will be taken by the President itself. They have an extensive area for research in order to be successful in their space missions. There are several facilities of NASA but John. F. Kennedy Space Center is one of the most popular facilities. NASA has dedicated years of space research and work towards sending people to the moon, discovering the nature of the other planets, the cosmic atmosphere and so much more. It has been effective and a relevant source for all space-related information.

Here are some interesting facts about NASA:

  • Before NASA, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics saw to the scientific study of flight.
  • In 1997, the Mars Pathfinder landed on Mars.
  • NASA has had several manned and unmanned programs since its existence.
  • NASA admitted to recording over the moon landing tape. However, CNN and certain other organizations still had a copy.
  • Orion is NASAs latest manned spaceship. The first mission will be initiated in 2021.
  • In 2016, after a five-year long journey, the June space probe finally entered the Jupiter’s orbit.

NASA is a worldwide name in aeronautics and space; and why not? Their discoveries, studies and missions have got us all set in awe. They have made a fair share of mistakes and have come a long way; to a point where they send people to the moon, launch satellites and train astronauts and scientists to achieve great heights.
